Tembusu Volunteer Programme (TVP)

Objective

Volunteers are an integral and coordinated part of all 4S' programmes and services. To enhance the support provided by the volunteers, the Tembusu Volunteer Programme (TVP) was set up in February 2005 to put in place a structure for the recruitment, development, deployment and recognition of volunteers.

TVP aims to build up a trained volunteer corps for 4S’ programmes and services with the capability of reaching out and responding to the needs of the community both within and outside of Singapore.

Volunteers Opportunities Professional Services Offer professional services in the following areas: ■ Medical advice & treatment ■ Diet and nutrition consultation ■ Nursing care ■ Therapeutic treatment ■ Home modification advice ■ Legal advice ■ Information Technology assistance ■ Counselling ■ Publicity materials design Befriending Services ■ Make house visits ■ Provide telephone reassurance calls ■ Provide companionship ■ Encourage clients to participate in activities and events ■ Help clients form mutual support groups Housekeeping Services & Food Aid Services ■ Perform simple household chores ■ Deliver meals ■ Pack and deliver food parcels Health Services ■ Accompany clients for medical appointments ■ Assist in rehabilitative exercises ■ Provide personal grooming services Events & Activities ■ Plan and/or conduct: - events - festive celebrations - birthday celebrations - classes - talks - performances - outings - arts and crafts - music enrichment - indoor games - sports, outdoor games - social and recreational activities ■ Form hobby groups Administrative Services ■ Man service counter ■ Handle enquiries ■ Supervise activity areas ■ Obtain feedback from clients ■ Keep records for events and activities Alert Alarm System (for Tembusu Seniors Activity Centre only) ■ Check on the studio apartment where the alarm is activated ■ Reassure the elderly in need of assistance ■ Help to call the emergency services Volunteer Management ■ Create awareness of 4S’ volunteer opportunities ■ Assist in 4S’ recruitment efforts ■ Assist in volunteer training ■ Mentor new volunteers

Guidance and Training

Volunteers will receive guidance and support from 4S staff in their voluntary work. Training is also conducted periodically to equip volunteers with the necessary skills and knowledge so that they can better serve the service beneficiaries.
